Portraits With Adult Ballerina - Natalie
I'm excited to share some images from an amazing shoot in my Madrid photo studio with Natalie, an amazing and talented Adult Ballet dancer and teacher. Photographing another artist is always an honor; we captured many wonderful images!
I have to admit, but I have never been a ballet fan, I respect it but I have never really enjoyed it...
Until now! After having photographed it and seen it through my lens, I am a convert. It is fantastically beautiful and moving. The movement, the shapes, the precision...I'm in awe.
Similarly, I have a new respect for the tutu...it's fantastic and a testament to simple minimal beauty.⠀My fascination with the tutu continued through our shoot as I was really fascinated by its shapes and texture. It reminds me of the beauty of the circle and the duality of dance, that it's incredibly beautiful and looks effortless, but the reality is hard work, endless hours of practice and the wear and tear on a dancer's body is as hard as any manual labor.

Expression
We started with a beautiful flowing dress and I asked her to walk me through different parts of dance. I loved the hand expressions and her beautiful silhouette, so she shared these with me.
Silhouette
I had already been experimenting with a series of silouhette’s like this and the shape of the tutu and here beautiful movement fot this type of image perfectly.
Portraits
This set of images was all about mindset. I've always been fascinated by what happens behind the scenes before a performance or game, so this was an exploration of the dance preparation. I admire the precision and technical skill and how it’s mixed with an artistic expression and soul…much like photography in a way. However, I don't admire the feet that have to wear these shoes, they look beautiful, but wow they don't signify comfort when looking at them up close. Seeing them up close they have every bit of the gravitas and grit of any type of cleat or athletic shoe…
The opportunity to work with Natalie was a great learning opportunity, it inspired me a lot! Thank you, Natalie, for the opportunity, it was amazing!⠀⠀
